COLOR PANEL Established for Members

The MFTHBA would like to announce that a new service is available to the membership.  The Board of Directors and a group of concerned members have been working diligently to update and correct the list of their foal's colors and/or correct those inaccurately identified in the past. For those of you who would like a little more help, it's on its way.  the MFTHBA has a great information resource within its membership, along with the expert advice and consultation of Dr. Philip Sponenberg, world renowned horse genetics expert.  We hope that those interested in color accuracy and genetic breed integrity will take advantage of this new service.  To this end, we would like to announce the establishment of a "COLOR PANEL" that will be available anytime to anyone that would like help in identifying their horse color.

For those interested in taking advantage of this service, pictures can be e-mailed directly to Colorpanel@mfthba.com for distribution to the panel, or physical copies of photos may be sent to the MFTHBA office and they will be forwarded to the panel.  Pictures of the specialty colors (spotted, champagne, silver dapple, roan, etc.) should include more than one view and close ups of eyes and skin (especially genitalia for champagnes) and would be very helpful.  The Panel consists of a group of MFTHBA members that are well versed and experienced in color genetics and identifying the various types of colors and patterns (and Dr. Sponenberg as a consultant on difficult cases makes it even more accurate).  They will be more than happy to give you a recommendation reached by consensus of the Panel.  The Panel will also be publishing an in-depth descriptive information article on color identification monthly in The Journal.

Any cost incurred for color changes shall be the responsibility of the member filing the affidavit for color change.
